Wise Words

My latest journal entry in that little orange journal of mine was about an old saying my mom used to say to me, and still does to this day. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. I didn't realize this until recently, but that exact saying is also a biblical concept that Jesus spoke about in Matthew 7:12 and Luke 6:31. In other words, it means to treat other people with the same kindness, respect, love, etc that you would like them to show toward you. My heart and soul have grown an immense amount over the years I’ve been growing up, and ever since I have grown closer to the Lord, and all I want to do now is shed that love onto other people.

I’ve mentioned my beautiful friend Catherine before on this blog, but she is one of the most amazing souls that I know second to my mother. Catherine and I have been friends going on almost five years now. She teaches at SoulCycle and has her own online workout business. Ever since my first class of hers, no matter what, she always finds a way to incorporate certain sayings into her workouts to impact her audience. (At SoulCycle this is called the “SoulFul” moment.) Without even telling her, she always knows what I’m going through somehow because when she is speaking to the class and is giving her soulful moment, her words hit home. Every. Single. Time. The most recent moment that I can remember of hers is when she preached about meeting yourself where you’re at and meeting others where they are as well. Meeting yourself where you’re at is one thing, but to have that reminder when it comes to others is another. She went on to say how each and every person’s path is different and how we all go through hard times. She told us to be easy on ourselves and to come to an understanding that this is our own journey and to not be so focused on the timing of things in life. Meeting ourselves where we’re at gives us the same love, patience, and kindheartedness to give to others while meeting them where they are.

As I’ve brought my heart closer to God, I have felt my heart open up more toward others as well. I’ve grown mentally and physically to embed this constant reminder to give/treat myself and others with respect, love, kindness, etc, and to meet myself and others where we are. I am in no way on the same track as others when it comes to work, school, physical goals, etc. It is/ has been so hard on my mind to worry so much about where I stand currently in my life, and once I was first told those two sayings, it changed the game for me. I’m still learning and growing every single day to not only reach the end goal of living a happy and successful life but to reach that end goal of being the strongest individual for myself and others that I truly can be.
